Brewers RHP McClung, manager Yost suspended

Sep 27, 2007 - 9:00 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Milwaukee Brewers righthander Seth McClung and manager Ned Yost were disciplined by Major League Baseball on Thursday for their involvement in throwing at the St. Louis Cardinals' Albert Pujols.

The incident took place in the eighth inning of the Brewers' 7-3 loss on Wednesday after warnings had been issued to both teams.

McClung was suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount for hitting Pujols on the elbow. The Cardinals slugger had hit his 32nd home run of the season earlier in the contest.

McClung was immediately ejected from the contest along with Yost, who got into a heated argument with St. Louis manager Tony La Russa on Tuesday after Jeff Suppan threw high and tight on Pujols.

Yost was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount. It will be served during Thursday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

McClung was scheduled to begin his suspension also on Thursday, depending on whether the righthander opted to appeal the decision.

With Wednesday's setback, Milwaukee missed out on an opportunity to close within one game of the Chicago Cubs in the race for the National League Central crown. Two games behind in the division, the Brewers have not been in the postseason since 1982.
