Pirates call up Tabata, send Boscan back down

May 19, 2015 - 7:06 PM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates called up outfielder Jose Tabata on Tuesday for the first time this season and sent right-handed pitcher Wilfredo Boscan back to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Tabata, 26, was batting .352 in 28 games for Indianapolis this season and reached base safely in 14 of his last 15 games for the Triple-A team.

He hit .275 over the past five seasons with the Pirates, including .282 in 80 games last year.

Boscan, 25, had his contract selected from Indianapolis on Saturday but has yet to pitch in a major league game.

The Pirates transferred infielder Justin Sellers to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Tabata.
