Orioles' Matusz ejected for substance on arm
May 24, 2015 - 3:48 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles reliever Brian Matusz became the second major league pitcher in three days to be ejected from a game for having a foreign substance on his arm.Matusz was ejected after retiring the first two Miami Marlins batters in the bottom of the 12th inning Saturday night.
Just like Will Smith, the Milwaukee Brewers reliever who was ejected from a game in Atlanta on Thursday night, umpires discovered a substance on Matusz's right forearm after being prompted by Marlins manager Dan Jennings.
Smith, who admitted he had rosin and sunscreen on his arm and had forgotten to wipe it off, was suspended for eight games by Major League Baseball.
It's common for pitchers to use a combination of rosin and sunscreen to get a better grip on the ball, but the practice is banned by MLB.
