Reds reportedly want to pick up option on OF Dunn

Oct 16, 2007 - 8:08 PM CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds apparently want to keep Adam Dunn in the middle of their lineup next year, and perhaps beyond that.

According to a report Tuesday on the Cincinnati Enquirer's web site, the Reds are expected to exercise their $13 million option on Dunn's contract.

The newspaper also reported that the team may also be exploring a contract extension with the slugger, who has been the subject of trade talks over the past few years.

New Reds manager Dusty Baker was asked about Dunn's option in his introductory press conference on Monday.

"(Dunn) is a big part of this team," Baker said. "We haven't talked about personnel."

Reds CEO Bob Castellini then interrupted Baker.

"I want him back," he said. "We'll see what happens."

Dunn, 27, became the first player in Reds history to hit 40 homers in four consecutive seasons. This season was his best statistically, as he batted .264 with 40 home runs, 106 RBI, 101 runs and 101 walks.

In his seven-year career, all with the Reds, Dunn has a .248 batting average with 238 homers and 572 RBI.
