Bud Black rejoins LA Angels in front-office job

Nov 25, 2015 - 3:10 AM ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Bud Black has rejoined the Los Angeles Angels as a special assistant to the general manager.

The Angels announced the return of the longtime San Diego Padres manager on Tuesday night.

Black spent seven seasons as Angels manager Mike Scioscia's pitching coach, winning a World Series championship ring in 2002 before taking over the Padres in 2007.

Black was fired by San Diego in June. The Angels hired Charles Nagy as their new pitching coach earlier this month.

New Angels general manager Billy Eppler announced several additional front-office hires and promotions while welcoming back Black.

Former major league infielder Mike Gallego was named the club's director of baseball development. The UCLA product and Southern California native spent the past seven seasons as the Oakland Athletics' third base coach.
