Yanks close to extension with Cano
Jan 24, 2008 - 7:36 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees reportedly are close to locking up one of their young stars.According to a report on Foxsports.com, the Yankees are on the verge of signing second baseman Robinson Cano to a four-year, $30 million contract.
The deal reportedly would take the 25-year-old Cano through his arbitration years, and also is expected to include club options that would enable the Yankees to buy out one or two years of free agency.
One of the game's premier offensive players at his position, Cano batted .306 and set career highs with 19 homers and 97 RBI in 160 games last season.
Cano is a career .314 hitter with 48 homers and 237 RBI in three seasons.
