Reds, Phillips agree to four-year deal
Feb 15, 2008 - 8:11 PM SARASOTA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds and second baseman Brandon Phillips avoided arbitration by agreeing to a four-year contract on Friday.Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal allows Phillips to stay in Cincinnati through the 2011 season with a club option for 2012.
Phillips, 26, hit .288 with 30 home runs and 94 RBI in 158 games last season, becoming only the second second baseman in major league history to produce at least 30 homers and 30 steals in the same season. He led the Reds in seven categories, including runs (107), hits (187) and stolen bases (32).
In six seasons with the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati, Phillips is hitting .266 with 53 homers and 207 RBI in 442 games.
