TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ace righthander John Lackey will miss the start of the season with a strained triceps, the team announced Saturday.
Lackey, whose injury was confirmed after an MRI, already has begun rehab therapy and will not participate in any baseball activities for the next three to four weeks.
Lackey was an All-Star for the first time in his career last season when he went 19-9 with a 3.01 ERA, the lowest mark in the American League.
Being injured is something Lackey is accustomed to. He has made 33 starts in each of last five seasons, logging at least 200 innings in four of those campaigns.
In 2002, Lackey was the winning pitcher in Game Seven of the World Series as the Angels captured their first championship.
