Tigers OF Granderson to have X-rays

Apr 2, 2008 - 5:54 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Injured Detroit Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson will have X-rays taken Saturday on the broken bone in his right hand.

Granderson began the season on the 15-day disabled list after breaking a finger in his right hand when he was hit by a pitch in a Grapefruit League game on March 22.

"I'm being cautious," Granderson told the team's web site. "I'm not 100 percent, and I don't want to make it worse."

Granderson, who has been inactive since getting hit by Philadelphia's Travis Blackley, said before Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals that he will not take batting practice until he can swing without any pain.

"When I injured my pinkie in '05, swinging and missing caused the most pain, so that's how I'll know I'm ready to go," he said.

In 15 games this spring, Granderson hit .306 with three doubles, three triples, four home runs and eight RBI.

The Tigers signed the 26-year-old to a new five-year contract in February, with a team option for 2013.

Granderson was one of the Tigers' most productive players last season, batting .302 with 23 home runs, 74 RBI and 122 runs scored. He also stole 26 bases from the leadoff spot in Detroit's potent lineup.

He added 38 doubles and 23 triples, making him the only the second player in major league history to collect at least 30 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.

In 373 career games - all for Detroit - Granderson has hit .280 with 50 home runs, 162 RBI and 232 runs scored.

Brandon Inge has started the Tigers' first two games this season in center field.
