Giants OF Rowand out with bruised ribs

Apr 5, 2008 - 7:07 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- San Francisco Giants center fielder Aaron Rowand missed Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers with bruised ribs.

Rowand has been experiencing pain in his left side and could possibly have X-rays to check for a fracture.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Rowand likely also will be sidelined for Sunday's series finale with the Brewers.

"More than likely (he'll be out) both days," Bochy said. "He's pretty sore. He wants to play.

"This is my decision. At this point, I think we're better off trying to get it to calm down and give him a couple of days. He's a little sorer, I think, than he's telling us."

Rowand, who signed a five-year deal worth $60 million with the Giants in the offseason, hurt himself Wednesday night at Los Angeles while diving for Blake DeWitt's bloop double. He is batting .385 (5-for-13) this season.
