Polanco's errorless streak ends
Apr 8, 2008 - 7:29 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco on Tuesday had his record 187-game errorless streak snapped against the Boston Red Sox.Polanco, who had not made an error since July 1, 2006, was charged with an error on a relay throw in the third inning.
Boston slugger Manny Ramirez hit a deep fly ball to center field which Brandon Inge chased down and fired into Polanco. The second baseman's throw to third base skipped away from Miguel Cabrera and into Detroit's dugout, allowing Ramirez to score.
Luis Castillo holds the second-longest mark for second basemen with 143 errorless games from May 30, 2006, to June 5, 2007.
Steve Garvey owns the major league record for consecutive errorless games by an infielder at 193, set from 1983-85.
