Granderson to make season debut

Apr 23, 2008 - 10:22 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson is ready to make his first appearance of the season.

Granderson was in the Tigers' starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers after being activated from the 15-day disabled list.

To make room for their leadoff hitter, the Tigers optioned outfielder Clete Thomas to Class AAA Toledo of the International League. Thomas batted .295 with five RBI while filling in for Granderson.

The 26-year-old Granderson was placed on the DL after suffering a broken finger when he was hit by a pitch in a Grapefruit League game on March 22.

Granderson batted .302 with 23 home runs, 74 RBI and 122 runs scored from the leadoff spot in Detroit's potent lineup last season. He also stole 26 bases.

He added 38 doubles and 23 triples, making him only the second player in major league history to collect at least 30 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.
