Phillies 2B Utley honored by National League

May 3, 2008 - 8:27 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was named the National League Player of the Month for April on Saturday.

A two-time All-Star, Utley batted .360 (40-for-111) with a major league-leading 11 home runs and 23 RBI in the season's first month.

Utley tied a franchise record by hitting a home run in five consecutive games from April 17-21. Utley tied the record shared by Bobby Abreu (2005), Mike Schmidt (1979) and Dick Allen (1969).

Other players receiving votes were Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Nate McLouth, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal and Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell.
