Dodgers OF Kemp named Player of Week
May 5, 2008 - 7:04 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp on Monday was named the National League's Player of the Week.Kemp, 23, batted .407 (11-for-27) in six games this past week, collecting league highs of 11 RBI and six stolen bases. He also had four doubles and scored seven runs.
It marked the first career weekly award for Kemp, who led the Dodgers to a 5-1 record last week. Prior to Sunday's 7-2 loss at Colorado, Los Angeles reeled off an eight-game winning streak to erase a slow start to the season.
Others considered for the award were Houston Astros first baseman Lance Berkman, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones and Chicago Cubs catcher Geovanny Soto.
