Reds SS Keppinger placed on DL
May 14, 2008 - 3:33 PM CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Reds shortstop Jeff Keppinger was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a fractured left kneecap.Keppinger suffered the injury on a foul ball in the second inning of Tuesday's 5-3 victory over the Florida Marlins. The Miami native will undergo an MRI later Wednesday to determine how long he will be sidelined.
The injury marks a disappointing turn to what was a breakout season for Keppinger, who leads the Reds in batting average (.321), hits (48) and RBI (21). Keppinger, who has filled in for the injured Alex Gonzalez since the start of the season, also has three home runs in 39 games.
To fill Keppinger's spot on the roster, the Reds recalled infielder Paul Janish from Class AAA Louisville.
No one has shouted yet.
