Brewers sign Braun to seven-year extension
May 15, 2008 - 2:19 PM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers and left fielder Ryan Braun have agreed to a seven-year contract extension, according to a report on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel web site Thursday.Braun's deal is expected to surpass the largest contract in club history, established when free-agent pitcher Jeff Suppan signed a four-year, $42 million contract prior to the 2007 season.
The Brewers have scheduled an 11 a.m. EDT press conference at Miller Park, at which time the deal is expected to be officially announced.
Braun batted .324 with 34 home runs and 97 RBI in only 113 games last year and was subsequently named National League Rookie of the Year.
The 24-year-old, who moved from third base to left field this spring year, is having another strong season thus far. In 39 games, Braun is batting .287 with a team-leading nine home runs and 29 RBI.
