SS Jeter in lineup for Yankees

May 21, 2008 - 8:43 PM BRONX, New York (Ticker) - New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Jeter left Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Orioles in the third inning after he was hit on the left hand with a pitch by Daniel Cabrera.

Jeter, who has been hit by a pitch three times this season, suffered a contusion, but X-rays were negative and he said after Tuesday's contest that he would not miss any time.

"I'll be fine," Jeter said. "Obviously, it doesn't feel good, but I should be all right for (Wednesday)."

Jeter did sit out six games in April with a strained left quadriceps. The veteran left Tuesday's contest on the same day that the Yankees got back third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list and accounted for New York's only offense with a two-run home run.

Jeter is batting .312 with two home runs and 21 RBI in 39 games this year.

The struggling Yankees, in last place in the American League East, have lost four in a row to drop a season-high five games under .500 (20-25).
