WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Things have gotten worse for struggling reliever Eric Gagne.
Gagne, who temporarily was removed from his closer's role by the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this month because of ineffectiveness, on Friday was placed on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right rotator cuff.
Gagne, who signed a one-year, $10 million contract with Milwaukee as a free agent prior to the season, is 1-2 with a 6.98 ERA in 20 appearances.
He was tied for the National League lead with five blown saves in 15 opportunities before being removed from the role by Brewers manager Ned Yost, who claimed the former All-Star needed a "mental break."
Gagne eventually resumed his job as the team's closer and picked up his 10th save in a 5-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 13.
But his most recent outing was disaster, as the 32-year-old yielded two runs, two hits - including a home run - and two walks while recording just two outs in a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
To replace Gagne on the roster, the Brewers recalled righthander Tim Dillard from Class AAA Nashville of the Pacific Coast League.
