Tigers place OF Sheffield on DL
May 28, 2008 - 12:33 AM ANAHEIM (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder-designated hitter Gary Sheffield on the disabled list Tuesday with oblique spasms.Sheffield left Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with the injury.
The 39-year-old Sheffield, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery, is batting just .213 with three homers this season. He had started to produce lately, however, going 8-for-19 with four RBI in four games prior to the injury.
In a corresponding roster move, the Tigers recalled first baseman Jeff Larish from Class AAA Toledo.
