2B Utley named Player of Week

Jun 2, 2008 - 7:42 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After leading all players in home runs and RBI, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley on Monday was named National League Player of the Week.

Utley hit five homers and drove in 14 runs last week for the Phillies, who have taken over the top spot in the East Division. On Sunday, Utley belted his major league-leading 20th homer and his fourth in as many games.

Utley reached the 20-homer mark in his 58th game, the fastest ever for a second baseman. The two-time All-Star has homered in six of his last seven contests.

For the week, the 29-year-old Utley batted .391 with 25 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.087.

Among those also considered for the award for were Utley's teammates, catcher Chris Coste and outfielder Shane Victorino.
