Griffey out of Reds' lineup again
Jun 4, 2008 - 9:46 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Ken Griffey Jr. is not in the Cincinnati Reds' starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. It marks the third straight night that Griffey, who is one homer shy of 600 for his career, has been held out of the lineup. The veteran outfielder also was sidelined Monday and Tuesday due to "general soreness," according to Reds manager Dusty Baker.
On Saturday at Great American Ballpark, the 38-year-old Griffey hit his 599th career home run against the Atlanta Braves.
Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa are the only players in baseball history to surpass 600 career homers.
