Jeter passes Mantle on Yankees' hits list
Jun 5, 2008 - 12:15 AM BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Derek Jeter passed New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle for third place on the team's all-time hit list with an RBI single in the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.Jeter, who has 2,416 hits, served the ball to right-center field - his signature stroke - to score Jose Molina and give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
Next up for Jeter is Babe Ruth, who is second on the list with 2,518 hits. Lou Gehrig leads the historic franchise with 2,721.
In his 13th season, Jeter has become an icon in New York, which has won four championships since his rookie season in 1996.
