Tigers place SS Santiago on DL

Jun 6, 2008 - 11:32 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers placed shortstop Ramon Santiago on the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Cleveland Indians.

Santiago suffered a separated left shoulder during Wednesday's 10-2 loss to Oakland. Playing for starter Edgar Renteria, Santiago sustained the injury when he dove for a ground ball up the middle and fell awkwardly on his shoulder.

The 28-year-old Santiago is hitting .361 (13-for-36) with one home run and 11 RBI in 18 games.

In a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled outfielder Brent Clevlen from Class AAA Toledo of the International League.

In a flurry of other moves, Detroit recalled Denny Bautista from Toledo and activated him from the 15-day disabled list, placed righthander Aquilino Lopez on the bereavement list and purchased the contract of infielder Michael Hollimon from Toledo.
