Yankees place RHP Britton on DL

Jun 7, 2008 - 12:15 AM BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees on Friday placed Chris Britton on the 15-day disabled list and recalled fellow righthander Dan Giese from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 25-year-old Britton is sidelined with a pulled muscle in his rib cage, an injury he suffered while warming up in the bullpen on Thursday. Britton has appeared in four games this season, allowing one run and three hits in seven innings.

Giese, 31, returns to New York after being optioned to the minors on Wednesday. In his only appearance for the Yankees, Giese took the loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday after yielding one run and five hits in 3 2/3 frames.

New York also announced Friday that righthander LaTroy Hawkins' three-game suspension was upheld by Major League Baseball.

Hawkins, who received the penalty for throwing at Baltimore's Luke Scott last month, began serving his suspension Friday. In his first season with the Yankees, the 35-year-old is 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA in 22 relief appearances.
