Mets' Church to miss final game of trip

Jun 8, 2008 - 5:57 PM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Still feeling the after-affects of his collision in Atlanta on May 20, outfielder Ryan Church will miss the final game of the New York Mets' road trip Sunday against the San Diego Padres.

On Friday, Church began experiencing a pulsating sensation on both sides of his head. He will visit a neurologist after the Mets return to New York and could be placed on the disabled list, according to the team's website.

"We can only go by how he feels," New York manager Willie Randolph said. "We considered the DL but decided to wait. No one knows a lot about it."

Church, 29, suffered his second concussion of the season on May 20, when his head collided with Braves' shortstop Yunel Escobar while trying to break up a double play that ended the first game of the doubleheader.

After making four appearances as a pinch hitter, Church returned to the starting lineup on June 1, then played in two of three games in San Francisco and the opener of the four-game series in San Diego on Thursday.

However, Church was kept out of the lineup on Friday and Saturday. He also has been feeling dizziness and fatigue - common symptoms following a concussion.

"I get these spells," Church said. "I'm not going to risk going out there. I'm going to be all right. It takes time."
