Reds place Hairston on DL

Jun 10, 2008 - 6:31 PM CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds placed infielder Jerry Hairston, Jr. on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a broken left thumb.

Hairston left Monday's contest against Florida in the first inning after sliding into second base when attempting to steal.

The 32-year-old Hairston is batting .336 with one home run and 14 RBI this season, leading the Reds with 12 stolen bases.

Cincinnati purchased the contract of infielder Jolbert Cabrera from Class AAA Louisville to take Hairston's roster spot.

The Reds also announced Tuesday that righthander Gary Majewski was placed on the bereavement list. In another roster move, Cincinnati recalled lefthander Danny Herrera from Louisville.
