Mets place OF Church on DL

Jun 10, 2008 - 9:23 PM FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Mets finally placed outfielder Ryan Church on the 15-day disabled list with post-concussion syndrome Tuesday, three weeks after the injury occurred.

Church was originally injured May 20, when he took a knee to the head by Atlanta Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar while attempting to break up a double play.

Still feeling the effects of the blow, Church pinch hit in his next four appearances and then started four games last week. The 29-year-old last played at San Diego on Thursday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Church is leading the team in hitting with a .300 batting average and has 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 50 games this season.

The move, which is retroactive to Friday, was corresponded by the Mets activating outfielders Moises Alou and Marlon Anderson from the DL.

Alou has been out since May 22 with a strained left calf while Anderson was placed on the DL on May 24 with a strained left hamstring.

New York also designated catcher Raul Casanova for assignment Tuesday. Casanova had appeared in 20 games, batting .273 (15-for-55) with one home run and six RBI.
