Braves 3B Jones to miss time

Jun 21, 2008 - 5:09 AM ATLANTA (Ticker) - Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is expected to miss at least a couple of games after suffering a strained right quadriceps muscle in Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Jones, who is leading the major leagues with a .390 batting average, left the game in the eighth inning after re-injuring the right quad.

After the game, the switch-hitting slugger said he expects to be sidelined for a while.

"I'm going to be down for a couple of days," said Jones, who said he had a tennis ball-sized knot on the middle of his right thigh. "It got to the point where I couldn't move in the field. I had no motion whatsoever."

Jones, who went 0-for-2 Friday, has a team-leading 16 home runs and is second on the club with 45 RBI.
