Braves 3B Jones to sit again Monday
Jun 22, 2008 - 10:11 PM ATLANTA (Ticker) - Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will be kept out of the starting lineup again on Monday, manager Bobby Cox said following Sunday's 8-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.Jones was not in the starting lineup Saturday and Sunday due to a strained right quadriceps that has been bothering him on and off for the past month.
He did come off the bench Saturday to deliver an RBI single as a pinch hitter but was immediately lifted for a pinch runner. Jones will be available to pinch-hit Monday when the Braves begin a series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
"He's a good weapon to have (off the bench)," Cox said.
Although his average has dropped under .400, Jones is still the top hitter in the major leagues with a .393 mark. He also paces the Braves in home runs (16) and is second on the team in RBI (46).
