Tigers activate Sheffield from DL

Jun 24, 2008 - 7:30 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers activated outfielder Gary Sheffield from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Sheffield has been on the DL since May 28 with a strained oblique.

The 39-year-old, who is 17 homers away from 500 for his career, is hitting just .213 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 39 games this season.

To make room for Sheffield, the Tigers optioned first baseman Jeff Larish to Class AAA Toledo. Larish was batting .200 (8-for-40) with one home run and seven RBI.
