Orioles RHP Albers has torn labrum
Jun 28, 2008 - 5:30 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Baltimore Orioles righthander Matt Albers has a torn labrum and may miss the rest of the season after an MRI revealed the injury on Friday.Albers, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on Thursday, may have to opt for surgery, which would sideline him for eight months.
"He could rehab it, but if he rehabbed it, it would probably be almost a two-month period before he could pitch again," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. "Or he could go the route of surgery. He wants to discuss that with some people and consider what he's going to do."
Albers left Wednesday's start against the Chicago Cubs after allowing four runs while retiring only one batter. He is 3-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 28 appearances for Baltimore this season.
