Braves 3B Jones worried about quad

Jun 29, 2008 - 9:50 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- After missing the entire series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is concerned that his strained right quadriceps could keep out of the lineup even longer.

The All-Star Game could be in doubt for Jones, who was not in the starting lineup for the eighth straight game Sunday. He has made three pinch-hit appearances since suffering the injury on June 20, but the ailment has kept him sidelined longer than expected.

The Braves anticipated that Jones would miss just a few games and be available as the designated hitter for the three-game series in Toronto. Now, he is not sure he will be ready on Tuesday for the opener of a series against the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.

"I'm still in a lot of pain," Jones said.

The top hitter in the major leagues with a .394 batting average, Jones has a huge lead at his position in the All-Star fan voting. But his appearance in the July 15 game at Yankee Stadium could be in jeopardy because he still is not able to run at full strength.
