Orioles place SS Cintron on DL
Jul 1, 2008 - 7:10 PM BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday placed shortstop Alex Cintron on the 15-day disabled list after he left Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals in the seventh inning with a strained left hamstring.Cintron has played 26 games for the Orioles this season, batting .275 with a home run and seven RBI.
To take his spot on the roster, Baltimore purchased the contract of shortstop Freddie Bynum from Class AAA Norfolk of the International League.
Bynum batted .192 with five RBI in 34 contests for the Orioles before being designated for assignment on June 22. He cleared waivers and was sent to Norfolk, where he batted .400 (6-for-15) in five games.
To make room for Bynum on the 40-man roster, the Orioles transferred righthander Danys Baez to the 60-day disabled list.
