Reds 3B Encarnacion ejected
Jul 2, 2008 - 1:13 AM CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion was ejected from Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates for arguing a call with third base umpire Chad Fairchild. With two runners on in the top of the sixth inning, the Pirates' Adam LaRoche doubled to deep center, scoring Jason Bay from third. Ryan Doumit, who was at second, initially held up to see if the liner would be caught by Reds center fielder Jay Bruce.
Once the ball did land safely, Doumit rounded third but stopped halfway between third and home and turned around when he realized how quickly the ball made its way back to the infield. Second baseman Brandon Phillips' relay throw made its way to Encarnacion, who lunged in an attempt to tag out Doumit.
Fairchild ruled Doumit safe - although replays showed that Encarnacion clearly tagged him out - sending the third baseman into a rage and leading to his immediate ejection.
No one has shouted yet.
