Marlins SS Ramirez named Player of Month

Jul 2, 2008 - 7:50 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez on Wednesday was named the National League Player of the Month for June.

Ramirez hit .298 (34-of-114) with 10 homers and 13 RBI. He also had six doubles, a triple and stole seven bases en route to becoming first Marlin to win monthly honors since Jeff Conine in 1995.

Entering the final week of voting for the 79th All-Star Game, Ramirez is the leading vote-getter at his position.

Ramirez's teammate, Jorge Cantu and Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira were among a host of others who were considered for the award.
