NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim righthander John Lackey on Wednesday was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for June.
Lackey, who went 5-0 with a 1.16 ERA in the month, tossed 38 2/3 innings and allowed just five runs and 23 hits. He also recorded 34 strikeouts against only seven walks in June.
The 29-year old Lackey, who started the season on the disabled list with a strained triceps muscle, is 6-1 with a 1.44 ERA in nine outings this season.
Also considered for the award were Chicago's Mark Buehrle, Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia, Oakland's Rich Harden and Justin Duchscherer and Kansas City closer Joakim Soria.
