DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies placed lefthander Jeff Francis on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder prior to Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres.
Francis has struggled to a 3-7 mark and 5.67 ERA in 17 starts this season. A 17-game winner last year, the southpaw did not pick up his first win until May 18.
The 27-year-old allowed five runs - four earned -and 10 hits in six innings of a 9-5 loss to Detroit last Wednesday.
In a corresponding move, the Rockies recalled lefthander Mark Redman from Class AAA Colorado Springs of the Pacific Coast League. Redman, who was part of the Rockies' rotation at the start of the season, went 2-3 with a 7.84 ERA in seven games before being optioned to the minors on May 11.
