Mets place OF Church on DL

Jul 8, 2008 - 9:50 PM FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The saga concerning Ryan Church's concussion continues.

The New York Mets placed the right fielder Church on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday due to dizziness. The move is retroactive to Sunday.

Church, 29, has struggled with his health since absorbing a concussion attempting to break up a double play in the ninth inning of a 6-2 loss at the Atlanta Braves on May 20. On Saturday, he was forced to leave the game in the seventh inning complaining of dizziness.

On Monday, Church saw a concussion specialist and was given an MRI that came back negative.

However, the Mets have decided to not take any chances with the outfielder, who is hitting .295 (13-for-44) with a home run and four RBI in 15 games since the concussion.

Replacing Church on the roster is outfielder Nick Evans, who was recalled from Class AAA New Orleans. This will be the second stint with the Mets for the 22-year-old Evans, who is hitting .174 with two RBI in nine games this season.
