Royals OF Guillen scratched from lineup
Jul 12, 2008 - 12:37 AM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Kansas City Royals outfielder Jose Guillen was scratched from the starting lineup of Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners with a stiff neck.Guillen, who was one of five American League players eligible for the final spot of the All-Star Game roster, is listed as day-to-day.
The veteran slugger is batting .274 with 13 homers and ranks third in the AL with 65 RBI.
Also on Friday, the Royals claimed lefthander Josh Newman off waivers from Colorado and optioned him to Class AAA Omaha. To make room on the 40-man roster, Kansas City transferred righthander Ryan Braun to the 60-day disabled list.
