Tigers to rest SS Renteria, C Rodriguez
Jul 12, 2008 - 11:24 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers will not play shortstop Edgar Renteria or catcher Ivan Rodriguez until after the All-Star break.Renteria, who is hitting .254 with five homers and 33 RBI this season, suffered a mild left hamstring strain while running to first base in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Cleveland Indians. Ramon Santiago, who has filled in for the five-time All-Star in each of the last three games, will continue to play in Renteria's absence.
Rodriguez, who did not play in Saturday's 6-5 loss to Minnesota, will also sit out Sunday's contest as a way to get the 36-year-old some extra rest while also working backup catcher Brandon Inge back into the mix.
Inge made his first appearance in a game since June 22 after returning from the 15-day disabled list.
