Royals place OF Gathright on DL

Jul 24, 2008 - 8:34 PM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Joey Gathright on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder prior to Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Gathright was hitting .251 with 17 RBI in 82 games before the injury forced him to the DL.

In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled outfielder Mitch Maier, their first-round pick in 2003, from Class AAA Omaha of the Pacific Coast League. The 30th overall in 2003, Maier hit .316 (109-for-345) with nine home runs and 41 RBI in 85 games with Omaha.
