Tigers 1B Cabrera earns weekly honor
Jul 28, 2008 - 6:57 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera on Monday was named the American League Player of the Week.Cabrera hit safely in all six of his games last week, which included four multi-hit contests. The 25-year-old batted .464 (13-for-28) during that span with three doubles and 13 RBI. He matched a career high with five hits in Detroit's 19-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on July 21.
It is the second weekly award this season for Cabrera, who is batting .294 with 17 home runs and 74 RBI on the season. He shared the honors with Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez on April 21.
Other nominees for the award included Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez, Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye and Boston lefthander John Lester.
