Angels RHP Lackey has no-hitter through eight innings

Jul 30, 2008 - 1:20 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- John Lackey is three outs away from becoming the fourth pitcher in California Angels franchise history to throw a no-hitter.

Lackey has tossed eight hitless innings as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hold a 6-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Lackey yielded one walk with three strikeouts. The righthander has thrown 96 pitches, facing two over the minimum. He also hit J.D. Drew with a pitch in the second.

Lackey is attempting to become the first Angels pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Mike Witt tossed a perfect game on September 30, 1984. Nolan Ryan threw four no-hitters in an Angels uniform and Clyde Wright also pitched one.

The 29-year-old Lackey entered the contest with an 8-2 record with a 3.02 ERA.
