Padres place SS Greene on disabled list
Aug 1, 2008 - 11:59 PM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres on Friday placed shortstop Khalil Greene on the 15-day disabled list with a fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand. After fouling a ball off his shin and then striking out in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Greene suffered the injury on Wednesday when he slammed a storage chest in the dugout at Petco Park in frustration, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Greene has struggled this year, hitting .213 with 10 homers and 35 RBI.
To take his place on the roster, the Padres activated second baseman Tadahito Iguchi from the 15-day disabled list.
In another roster move, San Diego announced that outfielder Chip Ambres cleared waivers and was sent outright to Class AAA Portland.
