Nady, Aviles honored by AL

Aug 4, 2008 - 7:20 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- New York Yankees left fielder Xavier Nady and Kansas City Royals rookie shortstop Mike Aviles on Monday were named American League co-Players of the Week.

The recently acquired Nady batted .526 (10-for-19) with three home runs and 10 RBI last week. He capped the week with a career-high six RBI in Sunday's 14-9 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

This is the second weekly honor of the year for Nady, who also was honored by the National League after the first week of the season when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nady is batting a combined .334 with 16 homers and 67 RBI for the Pirates and Yankees.

Aviles won his first career weekly award after hitting .577 (15-for-26) with two homers and five RBI last week. He posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage.

For the season, Aviles is hitting .340 with seven homers and 31 RBI.
