Tigers 1B Cabrera named AL Player of the Month
Aug 4, 2008 - 8:05 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera first baseman was named the American League Player of the Month for July on Monday.Cabrera, who was acquired by the Tigers in the offseason, got off to a slow start by his standards over the first few months of the season.
But the 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent month of July, batting .330 (35-for-106) with eight home runs and a major league-high 31 RBI.
Overall, Cabrera is batting .298 with 20 home runs and 82 RBI.
Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Aubrey Huff was the runner-up in the voting, while Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Torii Hunter and Cleveland Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore also received votes.
