Jeter records 2,500th hit
Aug 22, 2008 - 11:27 PM BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter on Friday became the 88th player in major league history to record 2,500 career hits when he singled in the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles.Jeter bounced the first pitch from rookie Radhames Liz to the right side and legged it out for an infield hit to join Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig (2,721) and Babe Ruth (2,518) as the only players to reach the milestone with the Yankees.
The 34-year-old Jeter now has 144 hits this season.
He joins Ken Griffey Jr., Omar Vizquel, Gary Sheffield, Ivan Rodriguez and Luis Gonzalez among active players with at least 2,500 hits.
