Royals place 3B Gordon on DL

Aug 23, 2008 - 11:38 PM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Royals on Saturday placed third baseman Alex Gordon on the 15-day disabled list with an upper right quad strain.

Gordon suffered the injury on Thursday against the Cleveland Indians while fielding a ground ball.

The 24-year-old is batting .254 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI this season, his second in the major leagues.

In a corresponding move, the Royals activated infielder Alberto Callaspo from the 15-day DL. Callaspo had been out since June 28 for an undisclosed medical reason.

In yet another move, Kansas City is expected to recall righthander Brandon Duckworth from Class AAA Omaha to start on Sunday.
