Giants option RHP Palmer to minors
Aug 27, 2008 - 6:28 AM SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants optioned pitcher Matt Palmer to Class AAA Fresno of the Pacific Coast League following Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled righthander Osiris Matos from Fresno.
Palmer, 29, had a rough outing for the second time in three career starts Tuesday.
Replacing injured Jonathan Sanchez in the rotation, Palmer struggled throwing strikes. He lasted 4 1/3 frames, yielding five runs - four earned - on four hits and six walks with one strikeout.
Since being called up on August 14, Palmer is 0-2 with an 8.53 ERA and three strikeouts over three starts.
Matos, who made his major league debut in early July, went 0-2 with a 4.05 ERA and 10 strikeouts over 13 games during his brief stint with the Giants.
