Padres send Ps Banks, Corey to minors

Aug 27, 2008 - 9:07 PM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres demoted struggling righthander Josh Banks on Wednesday, optioning him to Class AAA Portland.

Banks failed to get out of the fourth inning in his last start in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants and had given up 13 runs in just 8 1/3 innings over his previous two starts.

A second-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003, Banks is 3-6 with a 4.75 ERA this season.

In another roster move, the Padres activated righthander Bryan Corey from the 15-day disabled list and sent him outright to Portland.

Corey, a journeyman reliever acquired from the Boston Red Sox in May, is 1-3 with a 6.80 ERA in 39 appearances with the Padres this season.
